About the Opportunity
Argo Recruiting is conducting a confidential executive search for an experienced Vice President of Construction Operations to join a rapidly growing construction organization with an expanding federal and commercial project portfolio.
This executive leadership position is ideal for a proven operations leader who has successfully managed multiple large-scale construction projects, built high-performing teams, and driven operational excellence across complex programs. The selected candidate will play a critical role in shaping company-wide construction operations, improving execution standards, and supporting long-term strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Operations Leadership
- Provide executive oversight for all active construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Develop, implement, and standardize construction processes, procedures, and operational best practices.
- Oversee project planning, scheduling, cost management, quality assurance, and project execution.
- Drive operational consistency while adapting to client-specific and contract requirements.
- Champion Lean Construction methodologies and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Financial Leadership
- Maintain full operational accountability for project financial performance and profitability.
- Review budgets, forecasts, project costs, and change management strategies.
- Identify operational risks early and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
- Partner with executive leadership to maximize project margins and operational efficiency.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and field operations teams.
- Foster a culture centered around accountability, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support recruiting, workforce planning, leadership development, and succession planning.
- Build scalable operational teams capable of supporting organizational growth.
Strategic Growth
- Collaborate with Business Development and Preconstruction teams during project pursuits.
- Provide constructability reviews and operational expertise during proposal development.
- Support expansion into new geographic markets, agencies, and project sectors.
- Represent the organization with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive construction management experience
- Executive or senior leadership experience overseeing multiple concurrent construction projects
- Strong knowledge of commercial and/or federal construction operations
- Experience managing projects valued at $5M or greater
- Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, scheduling, cost control, quality management, and risk mitigation
- Experience implementing Lean Construction principles or continuous improvement initiatives
- Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Primavera P6, or similar platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MBA, MS, or related field)
- Professional certifications such as PMP, CCM, or PE
- Experience managing federal government construction projects
- Knowledge of government contracting and federal procurement processes
- Experience supporting growth-stage construction organizations
- Background managing both general construction and mechanical construction operations
